ANNUAL AWARDS
In addition to the racing awards available to riders at individual events, BMXNZ award a number of annual trophies to recognize commitemnt to and performance within the BMX community at both an individual and team level.
These awards are presented annually at the BMXNZ National Championships prizegiving (effective from 2024).
Awards fall into three categories:
For the Sport nominated awards, BMXNZ seeks nominations for these awards from the sport in January-February. The nominations can be submitted by anyone which then are reviewed by the individuals BMX club. If accepted by the club, the nomination will be considered by the BMXNZ Board.
INDIVIDUAL RIDER AWARDS
Top Achiever - Female
This BMXNZ Board nominated award recognizes the highest achieving Female athlete from the previous calendar year based on results in the following descending order:

This BMXNZ Board award recognizes the highest achieving Male athlete from the previous calendar year based on results in the following descending order:
Sportswoman of the Year
Sport nominated, the Sportswoman of the year is not awarded based on results but to the nominee who best exhibits:

Sportsman of the Year

Paul Fisher Memorial Trophy - Top Male 16yrs
Awarded at the North Island Titles for the Top Male 16yrs. Top points from all motos excludes Finals.
Dawne Nelson Challenge Trophy - Top Girl 16yrs
Awarded at the North Island Titles for the Top Girl 16yrs. Top points from all motos excludes Finals.
National Series Age Group Champion
This Results determined award recognises the top qualifying challenge rider in each age group across both 20" and Cruiser classes.
The series involves 10 rounds, of which a riders five best rounds will count towards the end of season “champions” for each class. The five rounds need to be made up of 3 Region Champs, 1 Island Title (North or South) plus Nationals in the same year.
A rider can do as many rounds as they want but must complete the minimum five-round requirement, then it is only their best five results of the noted events below that count towards their final score.
The BMXNZ National Series is run over the calendar year, counting the events from 1st of January to the 31st of December.
The National Series Champion of each age group will be awarded a Series Champion Race Jersey Presentation plates awarded for 1st to 8th placed qualified riders at the end of the Nationals Series each year.
All licenced challenge riders are automatically entered into the National Series, no further registration is required. Full details can be found here
TEAM RIDER AWARDS
Re-imagined for 2024, the Results determined Larry Gardner Trophy is now a competition to determine and recognize NZ’s top performing BMX club across the calendar year.
The competition operates across all calendared meets throughout the year (Jan – Dec) and is automatically open to all NZ licenced challenge riders. Any class, Any age, No uniform requirements and No additional registration is required.
Individual riders score points for their club at each event on the NZ BMX calendar based on their final position. Club standings will be calculated across the top 10 riders over the calendar year from each club to determine the winner takes all Top NZ Club to receive the Larry Gardner Trophy and $1000 for your club at the Nationals prizegiving.

The Results determined BMXNZ Teams Series is the teams competition within the sport in New Zealand. The Series is offered to encourage rider participation and development within a structured team environment. This series is open to teams from clubs, businesses, existing teams and groups of friends. The series guidelines offer the regulations to enter the competition & the structure of the series competition format.
All seven Regional Champs Events plus the BMXNZ National Championships within the current calendar year will be recorded towards the National Teams Series.
Overall winning team will be presented with the Teams Dalliston Cup, plus each team member will receive a medal. Medals for 2nd and 3rd placed teams. Presentation will be at the Nationals event following the end of the calendar year.

Pocock Trophy
The Results determined Pocock Trophy is a Club Competition held at the BMX New Zealand National Championships event.

NON-RIDER INDIVIDUAL CONTRIBUTION AWARDS
Volunteer Coach of the Year - North Island
This Sport nominated award recognizes the individual in who has had the greatest impact in developing riders in the North Island now and for the future .
Nominees for this award are typically club or regional coaches and/or senior riders but can be anyone. The only criteria is that nominess must coach in a volunteer rather than professional capacity.

Volunteer Coach of the Year - South Island
This Sport nominated award recognizes the individual in who has had the greatest impact in developing riders in the South Island now and for the future .
Nominees for this award are typically club or regional coaches and/or senior riders but can be anyone. The only criteria is that nominess must coach in a volunteer rather than professional capacity.

Service to BMX
The Board nominated award is presented to the individual who has exhibited the greatest contribution to the Sport of BMX in a non-coaching and non-officiating role.
Open to individual contributors at club, regional and/or national level, The Board considers service provided to the of the BMX community in a wide range of areas such as administration, event organisation, public relations, IT, fund raising, commentary and rider support.
Official of the Year
The Board nominated award is presented to the individual who has exhibited the greatest contribution to the Sport of BMX in an officiating role.
Open to individual contributors at club, regional and/or national level, The Board considers contributors in the following functions:
